Patna, the capital of Bihar, was known by name Pataliputra. Since historic times it has been renowned as a centre of learning and is retained so even today. Patna has given birth to many scholars. Numerous historians and learneds from China had also visited this place in pursuit of knowledge. Patna University and Patna Medical College Hospital(PMCH) are among few of the oldest in the country.
The city hosts many newly opened colleges of various streams. Local industrial services forms the major occupation of Patna city. Apart from river Ganga other major ones are Ghagra, Gandak, Punpun and Sone.
Places to visit here are Patna Museum, Patna Planetarium, Martyr's Memorial, Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan and Srikrishna Science Centre.
Religious places include Har Mandir Takht, Pathar ki Masjid, Sher Shah Suri Masjid, Sadaqat Ashram (it also has a small museum displaying personal belongings of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the 1st president of India), Padri Ki Haveli.
