Madhubani

Madhubani is a name known to artists worldwise, it is renowned by its Madhubani paintings! These are the traditional paintings made on cloth, paper or canvas. Colours made from resources like flowers, turmeric, soot, leaves and wood bark. The themes are generally of gods, goddesses and nature.

This district is bordered by Nepal at its northern front while Darbhanga to its south. The towns and villages here are green and cattle rearing is one of the major activities along with farming.

Major rivers here are Kamla, Kareh, Balan and Tiljuga . The Kamla Balan bridge over Kamla river is one such unique bridge which is common for railway(meter guage) as well as roadway! Though currently a parallel bridge is under construction to get rid of traffic jams, lets hope this bridge gets preserved in long run!

Some of the religious places here include Bhawanipur, Kapileswarsthan, Saurath, Uchaitha.

Darbhanga

Darbhanga is the district surrounded by Madhubani, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Sithamarhi and Saharsa.

It lies in plain which has fertile lands. The central portion has depression which is the main reason behind its flooding every year.

Darbhanga district has many lakes and water bodies. Most of them are used either for cultivation of 'makhan'- gorgon/fox nut or breeding fish.

The main rivers here are Kamla, Baghmati and Tiljuga. Rice is cultivated on a large scale.

Darbhanga is renowned for its Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University(it was the palace of late Maharaj Kameshwar Singh) and Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Religious places here include chhaprar, Ahilya asthan and Kusheshwar asthan.

Samastipur

Samastipur is the kitchen garden of Bihar from administration point of view.

Rivers here are Budhi Gandak, Kamala, Balan, Kosi, Kareh and Jhamwari.

Litchi, mango and potato are cultivated in large amount apart from other crops.

Industries include various mills like jute, sugar and paper and has wagon wheel factory of railways.

Religious places in Samastipur are old Kali Mandir, Thaneshwar temple, Khudni Bibi's Makbara and Khatu Shyam Bihari Temple. The Rajendra Agriculture University in Pusa is well reputed. Pusa also has Indian Agriculture Research Institute and Sugarcane Institute.

Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur is famous for its litchies.

Bagmati, Gandak, Budhi Gandak and Lakhandeyee are the important rivers in the district.

Few of the many places of worship here are Baba Garibnath temple, Goddess Kali temple, Ram Krishna temple, Badi masjid, Bada Imambara and Gurudwara at Ramna.

Variety of industries in Muzaffarpur district are chemical factories, leather units, thermal power plant and dairies.

Education wise Muzaffarpur is next to Patna in the state. Muzaffarpur Institute of Technilogy(MIT), SK Medical College, Ambedkar Bihar University, Langat Singh College, Muzaffarpur Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Greer Bhumihiar Brahman College (Dr. Rajendra Prasad was lecturer here for some time) are renowned education centers.

Patna

Patna, the capital of Bihar, was known by name Pataliputra. Since historic times it has been renowned as a centre of learning and is retained so even today. Patna has given birth to many scholars. Numerous historians and learneds from China had also visited this place in pursuit of knowledge. Patna University and Patna Medical College Hospital(PMCH) are among few of the oldest in the country.

The city hosts many newly opened colleges of various streams. Local industrial services forms the major occupation of Patna city. Apart from river Ganga other major ones are Ghagra, Gandak, Punpun and Sone.

Places to visit here are Patna Museum, Patna Planetarium, Martyr's Memorial, Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan and Srikrishna Science Centre.

Religious places include Har Mandir Takht, Pathar ki Masjid, Sher Shah Suri Masjid, Sadaqat Ashram (it also has a small museum displaying personal belongings of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the 1st president of India), Padri Ki Haveli.
